Why I heart naps

Sleep deprivation is a problem.. it's a major cause of car accidents, studies show that many people who have heart attacks were exhausted at the time, a lack of sleep leads to irritability and an inability to concentrate, etc. The ideal sleep lasts eight hours, and I was hardly getting six! I've been staying up too late and waking up too early since my summer school in France (July) & my job (August) both require that I wake up early, and so it seems that I never really slept-in this summer.… Continue

Hookah: how safe is it?

On the France trip, many saw Hookah as a safe (and better tasting) alternative to smoking. Everyone immediately assumed that Hookah has no chemicals, and that it can't be nearly as bad as smoking.

Here's a few interesting points I found online:
- WHO estimates that hookah smokers may inhale smoke equivalent to smoking 100 cigarettes in just one session
- hookah contains carbon monoxide, tar, &nicotine which is only minimally filtered by the water
- in terms of nicotine, a daily hookah smoke… Continue

Why Should You Live Healthy?

Why be healthy? Why bother? I mean, who wants to live to be 80 anyways? You’ll only be old, wrinkly, and immobile right? And it can be hard; exercising regularly, eating right, and staying health conscious. You just can’t help but wonder, “Is it worth it?”

Our society seems to think so. Doctors stress it, parents promote it, and even this website was put up because chronic diseases are starting to affect younger and younger age groups. Yet that doesn’t seem to deter most teens from continuing s… Continue

When Studying Abroad in France – Summer ’08

It is unnecessary to point out that France is an unforgettable experience. I hardly remember my hotel room – we were out all the time. We ate the food we wanted to eat; we did what we felt like doing. In short, we lived the life we wanted to live… and somehow we were healthy despite greasy pizza and midnight snacks.

My story begins with the French, who are a modern mystery for nutritionists. The French are a healthy group of people; yet on their diet of saturated fat and wine, they eat f… Continue

Cool. If you've been working on your own article about the "French Paradox", then I would suggest adding it as a blog post... Since you just got back from France, this seems like a good way to lead off your blog.

Also, if you still have your work from last summer (I think I have copies if you don't), this stuff would make for some good blog posts!

You have officially been promoted to "administrator"! :P

Now you have the ability to post articles in the website forum. Before doing this however, you might want to check out the following links discussing some of the important criteria that we are using in order to keep our HIKY content credible.
